Suggestions:
New rule:
Only 1 monk in a build. There's still the possibility of running different healers (e.g. rit or derv healer) but highly defensive builds and shovespike will be less effective.
New tournament schedule:
Instead of 1 group phase and 1 K.O. phase: 3 Group stages
Stage 1: 16 Teams, 4 groups with 4 teams each. The best 2 of each group advance to the next stage (same as in the previous tournaments).
Stage 2: 8 Teams, 2 groups with 4 teams each. The best 2 of each group advance to the next stage.
Stage 3: 4 Teams, 1 group.
Within the groups every team plays 2 matches against every other team within the group. A win gives 1 point, a draw 0 points (same as before). All 3 stages should be able to be completed in 4 - 4,5 hours. With the 1 monk restriction rule and group stages instead of a K.O. round the motivation for teams to manipulate matches should be at a minimum.
Optional: Give 1 extra point for the next stage to teams who made 1st place in their group.
Optional: 3 instead of only 2 matches against every other team in Stage 1. This would increase the playtime for weaker teams which do not advance to Stage 2.
Optional: Introduce special penalties for teams for obvious match manipulation. This might not be easy to judge though since it would be difficult to find rules which can make it clear what counts as "match manipulation" and what not.
